Laura Ruff, DVM
Director, Emergency Services


Dr. Ruff is a Denver native who earned her BS in biochemistry from Colorado State University in 1987 and her D.V.M. from the University of Minnesota in 2000.

In the years following her undergraduate work and prior to veterinary medicine school, she worked at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center and Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio as a professional research assistant focused on metabolic disease states and pulmonary hypertension. She did a small animal medicine and surgery internship at AEVH from 2000-2001. She worked full-time in a veterinary emergency clinic in 2001, as well as part-time for Alameda East. In 2002 Dr. Ruff returned full-time to the Alameda East staff.

Professionally, Dr. Ruff's primary interests are emergency medicine/critical care, rehabilitation, and radiology. She is active in the following professional organizations: AVMA, DAVMS, VECCS, and served on the board for DAVMS 2004-2006. She currently serves on the Animal Issues committee with DAVMS.

She adopted a dog, Bogart, from the Colorado Humane Society. Bogart is a Canine Good Citizen, and has spent time in Flyball and agility. Bogart is a blood donor for AEVH. Dr. Ruff also has two cats, Bacardi and Myers, inherited during vet school.

Dr. Ruff's time spent outside of work includes: enjoying the Colorado outdoors with Bogart, spending time with family and friends, and reading. She has volunteered at Recording for the Blind and Dyslexic, a non-profit organization that records print material (textbooks, etc.) for students with print disabilities.
