Kevin McAbee, DVM, DACVS


Dr. McAbee was born and raised in Southern California. He received his bachelor's degree in Animal Science from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in 1995. Veterinary school brought him to Colorado where he graduated from Colorado State University in 1999. After veterinary school Dr. McAbee completed a one-year internship at VCA West Los Angeles Animal Hospital and a surgical internship with the surgeons of Affiliated Veterinary Specialists in Jacksonville, FL.

Dr. McAbee then moved on to New York City to complete a three-year surgical residency at The Animal Medical Center in 2004. He then stayed on as a surgical fellow at the Animal Medical Center for an additional year before he moved back to Colorado in 2005. Kevin joined the surgery department at VCA Alameda East Veterinary Hospital in June of 2007.

Dr. McAbee has a special interest in minimally invasive surgery such as arthroscopy, laparoscopy, and thoracoscopy. He also has extensive experience in arthroscopic cranial cruciate ligament surgery such as TPLO and TTA, neurosurgery, and non-cemented total hip replacement.

Outside the hospital Dr. McAbee enjoys spending time with his wife and son and playing with their three cats Herbert, Penelope, and Slider. Kevin is an avid cyclist and can often be found on long rides through the beautiful Rocky Mountains.
