Jennifer L. Fick, DVM, DACVS

Dr. Fick received her undergraduate training at Carleton College (Northfield, Minnesota) where she majored in Biology. After graduation, she accepted an internship at the San Diego Zoo's Center for Reproduction of Endangered Species where she performed genetics research to further preservation efforts for zebras and Przewalski's horses.

Dr. Fick attended veterinary school at the University of Minnesota. After graduating at the top of her class, she accepted an internship at Michigan State University.

She returned to the University of Minnesota for a 3 year surgical residency. Her research there included a study on wound healing using absorbable staples-a method of suturing that is rapidly gaining use for surgical closure in humans.

During her residency at the University of Minnesota she developed a passion for various fractures and surgical cases that required a high level of critical care. Upon completion of the residency, Dr. Fick accepted a Clinical Faculty position at the University of Florida's College of Veterinary Medicine. She followed her passion for fracture repair and advanced her skills in placing interlocking nails, plating, and the use of hybrid and full circular fixators, and linear external fixator systems. She also gained additional experience in laparoscopic surgery, TPLO, TTA, portosystemtic shunt ligation, and neurologic surgeries.

For two years, Dr. Fick worked for Flatiron Veterinary Specialists in Longmont, CO. In 2008 she relocated to Denver and joined the team at VCA Alameda East Veterinary Hospital.
