Karen Sanderson, DVM, DACVIM (Cardiology)

Dr. Sanderson is a native of Southern California. She attended the University of California, Santa Barbara where she completed her BA in Biology. She then moved to Boulder where she worked for a biotech company studying recombinant hemoglobin. She attended the veterinary school at Colorado State University and received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1999. She completed an internship in small animal medicine and surgery at the Atlantic Veterinary College on Prince Edward Island in Canada in 2000. Following her internship she completed a residency program in Cardiology at the University of California, Davis and subsequent board certification in 2003.

Upon completion of her residency, she worked in a busy multi-specialty practice in Southern California where she gained immense clinical experience. Currently, she lives in Boulder and runs Rocky Mountain Veterinary Cardiology. Although she enjoys all aspects of cardiology, she is especially interested in congenital heart disease, the management of chronic congestive heart failure, pulmonary hypertension, and feline heart disease. She has expertise in echocardiography, ECG interpretation, and cardiac catheterization.

She and her husband have two young children. Her interests are hiking, trail running, Nordic skiing, reading, and spending time with her family.
